Summer Devotionals: Faking It
Our devotional today comes from UGA leader Emily Harrison. Have you ever felt the pressure to fake like you’re doing better than you are in your life, your relationships or even your faith? Welcome to the club. We all feel the pressure to be perfect, and sometimes it can be excruciating. Luckily, we have an amazing invitation from Jesus to walk in our imperfections with our heads held high because all our identity rests not one what we accomplish but what HE accomplished. Such a good reminder today that His grace really is enough and that accepting our need for it is a huge part of our journey.
Summer Devotionals: Making Time
Today’s devotional is from AYA alum Mary Nichols Lollis. She graduated in 2023 and is bringing us a devotional from her first semester of PA school. This is SUCH a good reminder that we all need - as important as everything else seems, our relationship with God is really the most important. She shares some really great tips on how to refocus and get our perspectives shifted back to what matters most.
What I Wish I Knew Before Freshman Year
Do you ever wish you could know what something is going to be like before you did it? Well that’s the idea behind this new series called “What I Wish I Knew Before…”
This is the first episode in a 5 part series, (all 4 years of college and a special episode on Rush). Today Emily & Anna sit down to interview rising Sophomores Louise Adair and Ann Woodke all about their Freshman year. We talked about everything from boys to school to rush and living in the shoeboxes that are freshman dorms. It was so much fun.
Ann & Louise will be leading the Freshman AYA Bible Study next year at BAMA, so this is a great way to get to know them if you’re a rising Freshman!
Summer Devotionals: Direction Protection
Today’s devotional is from UNC leader Eliza Gesse. Eliza shares a story from the old Testament about King David and King Saul. Have you ever questioned God’s plan for you? This is some really good perspective about just how in control God really is, even when we may not be able to see it.
Summer Devotionals: Joyful Spirit
Today’s devotional is from Bentlee Burchell - one of the AYA leaders at Bama. She shares on what it looks like to ask for a joyful spirit, and let the Lord change our hearts as we find joy through Him.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 20-21)
I can’t believe we’ve made it to the last week of the book of John. Today’s episode is full of up as we look at the resurrection and what Jesus does as he encounters His disciples before He ascends to the Father. We talk about God’s desire for restoration and abundance for us, His unique plan for each of us, and we even touch a little on comparison.
Summer Devotionals: Receiving First
Today’s devotional is from USC leader Claire Peebles. Have you ever felt like you were doing all the right things in your faith but your heart still is missing something? Claire talks about verses from John (13:1-9) when Jesus is washing his disciples feet and reminds them that if He doesn’t wash them, they have no part in Him. What does this mean? Recognizing our need for Jesus to forgive us and make us whole comes before anything else. Tune in for more on this from Claire.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 18-19)
(The arrest and crucifixion) *sorry for the buzz, we had some technical difficulties* Today is a big day in the book of John - Jesus’ death. This week is heavy but it’s also so hopeful. We approach these Chapters with humility and reverence, but also with the end of the story in mind. In this episode we let the scripture speak for itself mostly, but we did pull out a few really important things we all could meditate on this week. If you’ve never read the details of the these last hours of Jesus’ life before, we highly recommend giving this a listen.
Summer Devotionals: Transitions
Today’s devotional is from one of the USC leaders - Emily King. She shares about trusting and leaning on God in times of transition and learning to rely on our identity in Him first so we can find steady ground.
Summer Devotionals: Holding Back
Today’s devotional is from Kate Lalley. Kate is one of the Bible study leaders at Clemson, which is the newest As You Are Campus (!!). This devo is such an encouragement to hold nothing back from the Lord. Have you ever felt like you’re not experiencing God the way you want to? She shares a story from the book of Acts that talks about a couple who seemed Godly on the outside, but were holding things back from God. It’s such a good reminder that God wants our whole heart, and our honesty. Listen to the end for a great example of a prayer to pray as you seek God today.
Summer Devotionals: Pray Boldly
Today’s devotional is from Mallory Mason - she graduated this year from UGA and was one of the As You Are bible study leaders. This one’s a quick and powerful word about asking God boldly as we navigate new seasons. She reads an encouragement from James 1:5-8, and reminds us that God wants to show up for us. Ask boldly and give God a chance to show up and help you with your fears.
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 15-17)
(The Last Supper part 2). Today we’re looking at the rest of the scene from the Upper Room where Jesus and is disciples have their last meal together. Jesus shares some really special things with them, and then spends all of Chapter 17 praying before he goes to the garden to be betrayed and arrested. This episode is packed full of really good stuff - what it means to abide, talking specifics about the Holy Spirit, and looking specifically at how to pray based on how Jesus prays.
Summer Devotionals: Ask + Listen
Today’s devotional is from Naomi Tucker. She attended As You Are Bible study all 4 years, and just graduated this year. She has 2 encouraging verses to share from the book of James. This one is so relatable, and if you’re needing encouragement today, it’s for you!
John: The Life of Jesus (Ch 13-14)
(The Last Supper) We’ve gotten to the last night of Jesus’ life. Everything from here on out is so important, but these 2 chapters specifically talk about an intimate last interaction between Jesus and his disciples (continued in Ch 15-17). What does Jesus choose to say to them, knowing He’s about to die? I guess you’ll have to listen and find out :) This week is a little longer so if you want to listen in 2 parts, Chapter 13 ends at 27:13.
